Having a sponsor, or "buddy", in France can be very useful to help you settle in when you arrive in France, or even before departure. It is also an excellent way to meet other students.

Welcome desks

These desks are located within universities and gather all the services foreign students need in the the first weeks following their arrival in France :

  • bank,
  • insurance,
  • transportation,
  • financial aid, etc.

What is a sponsor?

A sponsor is a student who volunteers to help a foreign student when he/she arrives in France. For example, a sponsor can help you complete your first administrative procedures. With this person, you will also be able to quickly meet other students, French or foreign, and become familiar with French culture.

How to find a sponsor?

The Erasmus Student Network - ESN, present in 34 cities in France, can put you in touch with a sponsor to help you settle in via the Buddy System platform.

In some French institutions, the International Relations Department also has sponsorship programs for foreign students, often through student associations. Don't hesitate to contact them before you arrive in France.
